Making Oobleck- Experiment

Friday 31st June 2019

(Making Oobleck)

Room 10 experiment:

Purpose/Aim: To find out what oobleck state of matter is.
Materials: corn starch,water,bowl,spoon,flat surface,plastic cup.

Steps:
  1. Grab your cornstarch and the bowl then tip
  2. the cornstarch into the bowl. ( maybe an quarter of the cornstarch)
  3. Take your plastic cup and fill it up  with water to the top.
  4. Then on the other hand, tip a little of water each time while mixing it with the spoon.
  5. Last but not least mix it around approximately
  6. 1 minute then dig in and see if you have your oobleck.
Results:
It was a bit sticky and also weird.
When i felt it i never knew what to do
with it but i noticed that when you play
with it it fast it goes hard and if you play with it slow it turns back to itself.

Conclusion: The 3 state of matter were solid, liquid and gas.
All of them had air particles in them. The matter is strength,
link/connected and particles. The particles in the matters some are weak and
some are strong that stick together tight.

Making Money

Public Or Private

Today with Miss Collins at Cyber Smart we were doing what is personal and what is not personal. The information we have, will we share it online or would we keep it private?
This is Miss Collins own answers of public or private. I think what i did wrong was that i never really think hard and i really wasn't looking properly at the information. But next time i will make sure to do the right thing.

A Magical Rainbow

A Magical Rainbow
Experiment:

Purpose/Question: what will happen when we put
a mirror into a clear bowl of water with a light shone on it? Will it get its reflection?

Materials: water, glass bowl, and pice of white blank paper, and a torch.

Steps:

  1. Take your bowl and fill it up with water to the top.
  2. Then grab your mirror and face
  3. it in the water on the corner but face it to the white paper.
  4. After that then grab your
  5. torch and turn it on shining it on the mirror but at the same time make
  6. sure that someone else is holding
  7. the white paper portrait standing and facing it to the mirror.
  8. But make sure you move the paper around a bit and see if you have your rainbow?

Results:
What i noticed was that the white paper won’t work if it is still but it might work
if you move it around. Because the rainbow don’t come and appears immediately.

Conclusion:

Do you ever wondered how a rainbow takes it place?
Well people all around the world think that when a rainbow appears there is always  a pot of gold
at the end of it. To be honest i think that is just a fairy tale lair. So the light flashes on the mirror and the
white paper gets the reflection and the rainbow might or might not appear.

A Candle Underwater

Question/Purpose: What will happen when we put a lit up tealight candle on top of a bowl with water?

Materials: 1 tealight candle,1 lighter a medium glass bowl,a clear glass,water, ans a adult.

Hypothesis: what i thought will happen is that ashes will go into the water because how fire creates ashes.

Steps:
  1. Firstly grab your medium glass bowl and fill it with water halfway.
  2. Then take your tealight candle and make sure you have an adult to light up your candle because it’s really dangerous.
  3. After that then take your lit up candle and gently place it on the water in the center.
  4. Afterwards when the candle is on top of the water then grab your glass cup and push the candle down
  5. till it reaches the bottom of the bowl.
  6. And watch what happens?

Results: what i saw was that how the air in the cup pushes all the water out and air bubbles came out.
What i felt is that the flame was running out
of air and it couldn’t stayed lit so that why it went weaker and weaker. What i smelt was the flame inside the cup
was steamy up and then it started to get foggy and more foggy. I could hear how the water is filling up inside of
the glass cup and that the
candle is already going out.
I see that the flame is still going and that the oxygen inside the cup is losing air.

Conclusion: what i learnt is that the air in the cup pushes the water out and maybe approximately about
7 seconds it goes out and water starts rising up into the cup.

Kawa Of Care- Whanau Hui

Today i just completed kawa of care slide.
The slide was all about keeping my Chromebook safe, putting it at a high surface,no eating or drinking around it and other kind of stuff like that.
I should treat my Chromebook the way i want to be treated. And i am really grateful for this Chromebook.

Water Vs Heat

What will happen if a blown balloon is put under a flame and a balloon that’s filled up with water, will it pop or not?

What i thought is that the balloon will melt because how the flame is really hot and it could melt anything down.

You will need: 2 balloons, 1 candle, 1 lighter and water. But you have to make sure you have an adult to light up your candle cause it is very dangerous.

And the balloon with water i thought it would pop because i thought that the heat will pop it.

Method: firstly grab all your materials: 1 candle, 2 balloons,i lighter and water.
Blow 1 balloon up and tie it with a knot.
Then with the other balloon do the same to it but fill it with water but half way, then blow it up.
After that ask an adult to light up your candle.
Next grab the blown up balloon and gently bring it down really slowly on top of the flame. And see what happens? It might take 5-10 seconds for your science to work.
Then after that grab the other blown up balloon with water and put it over the top of the flame and gently bring it down. And find out what happens.

Results:
The balloon with out no water in it pop! And the balloon with water did not pop. but it had black soot underneath after a few minutes.

Conclusion:
The balloon with no water in it pop! Because the flame gave heaps of energy to the atoms run around and made the balloon pop.

And the balloon with water in it did not pop! Because the water absorbed the heat, water is a good conductor of heat.

Manaiakalani Learner Questionnaire

This Morning with Mrs Collins we have been answering question about our Chromebook and our learning on Manaiakalani Learner Questionnaire. As I was answering the question and looking through it I thought to myself which answer should I pick or what do I do. Some question were challenging but some weren't.  I think  Room 10 deserves free time for the whole day.
This was a really great survey  and I hope I learn more about Cyber Smart and at least I tried my best.
