Camp 202k (2021)

 A Week At Camp Bentzon

Wow what a week at Camp Bentzon!

Last week, the whole senior syndicate and a few year 6’s stayed at Camp Bentzon for a whole week. We all were put into groups which had 9-11 students. Each group had 2 leaders, a boy & a girl. I was a leader of the Yellow Spider Monkeys with cheerful, enthusiastic fellow classmates. In total we had six groups and the reason why we got put into groups was because to get to know everyone better. We might not hang around with these students daily but it’s good to learn more about their personalities.

Firstly, we met at school around 7:30 am and from that time onwards we all packed our luggage into the bus and said our goodbyes to family and friends. We drove to Sandpit which took about 1.5 hours. Then we unloaded our luggage out of the bus and  onto the ferry. We caught the ferry to Camp Bentzon which took us half an hour as we went directly to North Cove rather than stopping at all the various bays on Kawau Island. When we got to the wharf we unloaded all the luggage onto the trolleys and took it to our rooms.

Each student took something into the two story building. Once we  finished unpacking we settled into our cabins and got our belongings  ready for the week ahead. We were all very excited and couldn’t wait for the activities to commence.

During the afternoon we arrived, my friends and I explored the outdoors including the Confidence Course and Beach.

The Senior Syndicate teachers were getting things ready for the evening while the students were enjoying themselves. Around sunset the evening bell rang and brought the children together for dinner. The SpaghettI Bolognese was so delicious and most of us wanted seconds. Thank God our first day was done and dusted.

Each day we participated in different activities with our group members. The Yellow Spider Monkeys aka YSM did Abseiling, Rock Climbing, kayaking, orienteering, confidence course, raft building and sailing an optimist.

My highlight of the week was the Fiafia night when all the groups performed their dance and chant. We were the second group to perform and we came forth. I was still proud of my team and I'm just happy we didn't come last. Red jaguars came last, Blue Sharks came second to last,Yellow Spider Monkeys came forth, Purple Vipers came third, Green dragons came second and the amazing Orange Leopard came first baby!

It was an amazing experience at Camp Bentzon, hope to see that place again >_<
